T-Mac Still T-Mac in Knicks Debut

February 21, 2010

At the February 18th NBA Trade Deadline, the Knicks made a gutsy trade. Not so much as to improve basketball but to bring stardom to New York basketball, the Knicks traded for Houston’s Tracy McGrady.

In my opinion this trade doesn’t really help them at all THIS SEASON considering they are already struggling significantly, and there’s only about eight weeks left of the regular season.

As the race for LeBron 2010® intensifies (officially 129 days until he his a free agent), it was made clear by the Knicks that they’re going to fight for him.

In this trade they got rid of fan favorite Nate Robinson, forward Jordan Hill, and top-three worst player to ever step on hardwood, Jared Jeffries (2,3). This allowed them to free up $90 million dollars in cap room for next year. In their prayers, that’s $90 million for King James. The way I see things, that’s $90 million that won’t bring LeBron anywhere, especially to New York. (Do they honestly expect LeBron James and Tracy McGrady, two of the best small forwards in today’s game to play on the same team?)

They also could be making a stab at Dwyane Wade, but lets be real, LeBron or D-Wade can’t just play side-by-side with Tracy McGrady, that’s just too much.

In his debut last night, McGrady looked promising. Playing in his 7th game all season (3.2 ppg), and 1st since December 23, McGrady cashed in for 26 points as the Knicks lost 121-118 in overtime to the Oklahoma City Thunder a.k.a. the Kevin Durants.

To compliment his 26 points, T-Mac had four rebounds and five assists. This is the T-Mac people are used to seeing. I think he’ll continue putting up these types of numbers, after all he is Tracy McGrady. But I do not think he’s going to help the Knicks at all. (T-Mac get out of New York, go somewhere where you can make the playoffs…and win in the playoffs)

It was just another loss in New York but newly aquired T-Mac and Eddie House seemed to add a new energy to the Garden.

The Thunder were lead by Durant’s 36 points and sophomore Russell Westbrook’s near triple-double with 31 points, 10 assists, 9 rebounds.
